Synopsis

Yesterday, Butu feared nothing. His elven magic protected him from every injury and discomfort, granted him supernatural speed and balance and gave him control over earth and water. Today, Butu fell down, and if the adults are telling him the truth, by the time he reaches his sixteenth birthday, he will have no magic left. Tomorrow, Butu will leave his loved ones behind to join the clan's army, where they will teach him to live without using magic.

Legend says that if a child wields the Sword of Kings, named Pisor, it will grant magic to an adult, giving him the power to be king. Pisor has been lost since the last king died, but rumors abound that it has been found. Butu and the new friends he made in the army are commanded to find it, enduring countless hardships while their magic grows increasingly unreliable. Butu finds Pisor and escapes, but his troubles don't end there.

Pisor's touch robs Butu of the last of his magic, so he loses any advantage his youth gave him over his enemies — all of whom wish to catch him and claim Pisor for their own. Without magic, Butu can't escape his pursuers, can't cross the desert and certainly can't complete his mission, but he still has the power to make a king. It must be someone he can trust, and Butu doesn't have many choices left — a mysterious spy, an ambitious soldier or the enemy leader.
