The Writers Convention is Just Around the Corner...

Posted by Eric on 8/20/2007: I've uploaded the revised version of the sample chapters. When we were in Maui two years ago, we had a consultation with an editor that resulted in a request to send in our manuscript. As it turns out, Lesson wasn't a good fit for them, but they took the time to read our book and write an honest critique of it. We took the suggestions to heart and ultimately implimented them. We feel our book is stronger, as a result, but I've only just now updated the versions of the sample chapters here. The synopses of both books are probably next on my to-do list. Stay tuned!

Posted by Eric on 8/11/2007: Okay, so we've finished the changes we were making to Lesson. I've written the second draft of the book Matt was working on last summer, which we call Kingmaker, and Matt is currently working on the third draft of that book in hopes that it'll be ready to present at the Maui Writers Conference at the end of this month. Now, having had a couple weeks to recover from the effort, I'm turning my sights on this site. Expect to see some pretty big changes, soon, as we need to get this site to represent two books instead of just one. Matt's the better designer, so hang in there while I experiment.

Posted by Eric on 10/15/2006: If we've been ridiculously quiet for the last few months, it is because we have been working on other writing projects. In response to some comments by an editor who read our book, I made some small changes to the beginning of Lesson of the Fuel that meant making big changes to the end of it - kind of like Homer Simpson sneezing on a dinosaur and causing huge changes to the present. Matt, meanwhile, wrote the entire rough draft of a novel since the last time he posted here.

Posted by Eric on 6/28/2006: Well, I have a set of combat mechanics for Android, now. Only playtesting will show whether they're good enough. I also went to the wedding of Beaker and Jo - one of my best friends from high school and one of my best friends from college, who met each other through one of my New Year's parties. In still unrelated news, I will soon be running a Mage: the Awakening game for a tabletop group. I'm excited, but planning for it has eaten a lot of my free time. Updated!

Posted by Matt on 6/26/2006: That's a beer link on the right, just to remind y'all that I like beer. I just got back from a big family trip to the Outer Banks. Tons of fun. Lots of pirate themes. Well worth the trip, in my book, if you do it right. To do it right, I offer this advice: Go to the beach. Eat. Go back to the beach. The joke is, I live in Hawaii, and my best tan I got in North Carolina. Laugh, if you must. I do. I didn't search for Leinie's there. We had this. We're updated, as well.

Posted by Eric on 6/12/2006: Matt's still working on the next story. Hopefully, it will be up within the next couple of days. Right, Matt? Beth spent the weekend looking at wedding dresses, so I really should have gotten a ton of work done on Android, but it really failed to materialize. Part of it, I think, is I'm fiddling with combat mechanics, again. Lots of notes and pondering, but not a whole lot of material I can actually show to my fellow Traitors. Maybe later this week. Updated!

Posted by Eric on 6/6/2006: I'll stick with coffee for my inspiration, thank you. Android is coming along gradually. I'm really proud of the player-player negotiation rules because they are simple but allow unlimited complexity for a group that's into that aspect of the game. I'm still struggling a bit with the combat system. When half the players have only a limited involvement when a fight breaks out, three hour long combats are unacceptable. This means resisting the urge to add rules that slow down combat. Updated!

Posted by Matt on 6/4/2006: I'm sure all of you are as thrilled as I am that Sam Hornish won the Indy 500 as I am in such a really awesome way. An event like that really makes me want to watch more autoracing, but I refrain from doing that. What I do instead is watch more golf, because the 2006 U.S. Open starts June 15. If you've never seen live golf, I highly recommend trying to attend an event. I made it to the U.S. Women's Open last year and the Sony Open this year, and it was worth it.Updated!

Posted by Matt on 5/31/2006: And what helped me write was Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss, a really awesome sweet summer brew. You can't even get this beer outside of the Midwest, that's how awesome it is. But don't take my word for it. I've loved it forever, which probably implies I'm biased in some respect. Here's a good beer review. I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Leinenkugel's brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wis., this month, and it was an experience. Be excited! Updated!

Posted by Eric on 5/29/2006: Matt got stuck trying to write a story last week, but he says he should have one posted by Wednesday. If not, we might have our first PARANOIA-style censure session. In completely unrelated news, Beth's Buffy game finished its 5th season tonight. In the end, only two PCs died against the THREE Big Bads we had in the room with us. Both of us were willing conspirators in this tale of drama and woe, though, so it's good. Speaking of Beth, check out her music. Also: Updated!
